Types Of ID Theft:

1. Account Takeover - Your existing credit card or account number are used to purchase products and services.
2. Application Fraud - Using your SSN or other identifying information, new credit accounts are opened in your name.
3. Criminal Identity Fraud - Your identity is taken to commit a crime, enter a country, or commit acts of terrorism.

How Is It Done:

1. An ID thief will steal your mail or wallet containing information about you, your credit and personal finances.
2. He/She will obtain your credit report by posing as a landlord or employer.
3. He/She will use personal information you have on the internet or scam you by email.
4. Steal mail, rummage through your trash and even complete a "change of address form" to divert your mail to another location.
